Tip for Success #7: The Two Types of Success

I often work with the most successful people in their fields. One of the reasons that these people often come to me is, although they have a great deal of success in their life, they’re still not happy! There’s still a gap, they still don’t feel fulfilled.

Achievement is one of the two types of success

We’re here, experiencing life, and achieving things like money, success, and relationships. But, if we look carefully, they don’t necessarily make us happy.

The second form of success is what I call Internal Success

Internal success has to do with the quality of our life experience and the state of our mind. It is equally important, if not more so.

What is our life like day-to-day, and how do we feel?

There are some key questions you can ask yourself if you would love to be more internally successful.

You can ask yourself, am I truly inspired in my life, or do I feel incessantly driven?

Drive is one of those things that continually push us. We can do things to try to continue to motivate and drive ourselves to achieve more. However, at the end of the day, we keep feeling empty and so we push ourselves to achieve more, and then we feel empty and it’s a never-ending cycle.

Inspiration is the opposite of that. Through the ups and down cycles of life, you still feel inspired, and you’re having a really good time.

Another way to look at it is, do I stop and actually celebrate my successes and give myself credit for what I’ve achieved, or am I always just focused on the next thing that I don’t have? The latter creates a very poor quality of life no matter how much we have outside of ourselves.

Am I grateful for the adversity that I have in my life?

A third thing to investigate is, am I grateful for the adversity that I have in my life when things happen that are tough and challenging? Do I look for how they’re helping me or do I just go on an up and down cycle?

Achievement is really important in life, it gives us a great sense of satisfaction. But if we don’t have the internal success and the presence of mind to enjoy our lives then no amount of success on the outside is going to make us happy on the inside.
